Ten of the most used closes and lanes leading to Elgin High Street will be targeted in a first phase of public realm enhancements led by Elgin CARS. Improvements include paving, guttering, signage and stonework followed by lighting which will be installed at a later stage. The Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere Partnership will then provide interpretation plaques reflecting on the people and trades once associated with the closes.
Lesley Hutt Architects has been commissioned to survey the closes and provide a range of costed options for improvement. This report is expected to be complete by end February 2016. Property owners and businesses will then be invited to come along to an informal drop-in event to discuss the options. The closes include Harrow Inn, Fife Arms, City Arms, White Horse, Red Lion, Shepherd’s, Braco’s, Victoria, Newmarket and Courant Court. Anyone who would like to discuss the plans is welcome to contact Kirsty Conti, Elgin CARS Officer tel 01343 563656 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
